Go through your closet and have fun finding those old jeans :).<br /><br />This project called for <em><u><a href="https://amzn.to/4hGkoRE" target="_blank"><strong>minky fabric</strong></a></u></em> for the quilt backing. Minky will provide enough warmth thus skipping the need for batting to make the quilting much more manageable.<br /><br /><strong><font color="#2A2A2A">INTERFACING</font></strong><br />Depending on the amount of stretch that your jeans might have (unfortunately most manufacturer nowadays add elastene/lycra to the denim fabric), you may or may not need to add interfacing to help stabilize your fabric.<br /><strong><u><em><a href="https://amzn.to/3Qpk50t" target="_blank">Fusible woven interfacing</a></em></u></strong>&nbsp;is what I used to stabilize some of the stretchier pieces. It is the kind of project that I do when I'm experiencing creative block. I simply love the liberating, no hard rules, no precise measurements to follow along, and the one of a kind result of each piece, that always brings a smile on my face.</span></div><div class="paragraph">There are different kinds of improv piecing, which can be incorporated to many different projects, but what I'm going to show you today is the freeform curves. This method is similar to <u><font color="#5040AE"><a href="https://youtu.be/UNUsyTVwK9Q" target="_blank"><font color="#5040AE">the modern wall hanging quilt project</font></a></font></u> that I shared a couple of years ago; in that video I used some jelly roll strips, and arbitrary piece each strip without much of a planning.<br><br>This time, we're going to stick to a theme which is the seaside or beach landscape. Thank you for your support.</div><div class="paragraph"><br><font color="#2A2A2A"><strong>What you need to make this quilt</strong></font><br><br><strong>42x <font color="#5040AE"><u><a href="https://amzn.to/3GbzP1A" target="_blank">Jelly roll strips</a></u></font> - 2 1/2&rdquo; x 44&ldquo; (6.4 x 111 cm) strips</strong><br>1x full bundle of jelly roll strips should suffice for this project, however each manufacturer<br>may vary in the amount of strips given in a package, (somewhere between 38-45 strips).<br>If yours is less than 42 pcs, cut few extra strips in neutral colors to get the required amount.<br><strong>2/3 yard border fabric</strong><br>I use <u><a href="https://amzn.to/35p2Ny2" target="_blank">Kona fabric</a></u> in off-white color to pull this quilt together<br><strong>58&rdquo; x 66&rdquo;(147 x 168 cm) batting</strong><br>use batting of your choice, I always prefer cotton batting since it's breathable and easy to work with<br><strong>3 1/2 yard backing fabric&nbsp; &nbsp;</strong><br><strong>1/2 yard binding fabric</strong><br>Note: yardage requirements are estimated, based on standard 44&rdquo; wide cotton quilting fabric.<br><br>Machine quilting thread (if opt machine quilting)&nbsp;<br>Basic sewing /quilting notions<br></div><div><div style="height: 20px; overflow: hidden; width: 100%;"></div><hr class="styled-hr" style="width:100%;"><div style="height: 20px; overflow: hidden; width: 100%;"></div></div><div class="paragraph"><font color="#2A2A2A"><strong>What fabric did I use to make this quilt?<br></strong></font>I did mix and match several fabric lines, gathering leftover and half opened jelly roll strips that have been accumulating in my stash.
